Summer Nights | Oxford International Song Festival
Nancy Holt and Weng Soon Tee transport us across the seasons with a performance of Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été (‘Summer Nights’). Berlioz began these six settings of Théophile Gautier in 1840, the same year as Schumann wrote Dichterliebe and many other of his most famous songs: Les Nuits d’été seem almost revolutionary in this context, and inhabit a thoroughly distinct soundworld. They have long been one of Berlioz’s most popular works. Alongside this, Nancy and Weng journey to Scandinavia for songs by Grieg and Sibelius, and they also include music by our Associate Composer, Emily Hazrati.

This is the culmination of the eight-day Building a Recital Programme course in which eight singers and four pianists from the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme have been exploring how to build creative and engaging song programmes.

Opera North | National Opera Studio
In their final residency, the 2024/25 Young Artists, in partnership with Opera North, will perform scenes from chamber operas by Benjamin Britten. These scenes delve into the complexities of human relationships and the struggles of individuals on the margins of society.
Nancy will be playing Nancy in Albert Herring and Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia.

Continuing Welsh National Opera’s long-standing partnership with the programme, the latest influx of singers from their Young Artists’ Programme joins WNO in February 2025 for their annual week-long residency, culminating in a not-to-be missed showcase at the beautiful Donald Gordon Theatre within Wales Millennium Centre, under the accompaniment of WNO orchestra.

Shakespeare Revisited | National Opera Studio
Contemporary opera scenes, directed by Keith Warner, that tell tales of unrequited love, “a madness most discreet,” alongside the complexities of jealousy captured in “the green-eyed monster.” As characters confront ambition, we are reminded that “all that glitters is not gold.”In bringing these stories of desire and conflict to life, these contemporary opera scenes celebrate Shakespeare’s enduring legacy, highlighting that “all the world’s a stage” and the struggles of the human heart remain ever unchanged.

Red House Recital: Britten's Birthday
